OUR BACKGROUND

Inspired by Maya Angelou's poem, Still I Rise, Marz Lovejoy created the annual bike ride, celebrating Black Women, ...And Still We Ride... out of passion and love. ASWR started in 2020 in New York City as an act of resistance and power.

Since its inception, ASWR has raised money for organizations centered on Black women and girl's health and LGBTQ+ youth, including The Lower Eastside Girls Club, Mama Glow, Black Women's Blueprint, Haus of Us, and Glits Inc.

By adding value to our commuity members, we’re addinng value to our ecosystems!

In 2024, ASWR launched The ASWR Award Ceremony, highlighting the work of local (with some national and international) Black women, girls, and femmes, doing extraordinary work in their communities! The goal of this award is to recognize the community work of others and add value to their already critical work.

ASWR aims to make biking and wellness more fashionable and  accessible to our community.

In Winter of 2025, And Still We Ride became a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit!

OUR MISSION

And Still We Ride builds community currencies beyond money by bringing together biking, fashion, art, culture, birthwork, food justice, and shared resources to create spaces where people are supported, valued, and connected.

OUR VISION

A world where bikes connect communities, expand access, and create pathways to care, culture, nourishment, and collective wealth.
